About the work

To coincide with the display of his work in the ISelf Collection: The End of Love, Jim Lambie has created an edition of 40 hand-finished prints especially for the Whitechapel Gallery. Similar to his floor work, Zobop, Lambie has used bands of vibrant colour to create a striking optical effect. Concentric circles give the illusion of movement or expanding space as they appear to reverberate outwards. Lambie, who is interested in music and pop culture, has created a kaleidoscopic image akin to the format of a phonograph record or a psychedelic rock n roll poster, as well as a pop art aesthetic alluding to the target paintings of Jasper Johns and Peter Blake.

A burst of colour has been hand-sprayed by Lambie onto the centre, or bullseye, of each print. Drips of paint have hardened in relief from the flat backround, interrupting the optical illusion of the circles. The title of the edition, Sunspots, references similar visual phenomena: dark spots on the sun’s surface or a sensory blast on the retina from staring into bright light.

About the artist

Jim Lambie's (b. 1964, Glasgow, UK) practice evolves from a response to the psychology of space and colour and is influenced by movements in art and the history of place. His sculptures and large floor installations incorporate familiar and common ephemera found in markets and jumble sales, including records, potato sacks and plastic bags. Using a DIY economy of means, Lambie riffs on popular culture and music alongside art historical references. Lambie lives and works in Glasgow, UK.

Puppy interactive toy
Color: Orange, Color: Orange
It’s a great toy as it keeps my 5 month old puppy very entertained! It is pretty hardy and made of good material as she tries to throw it around and chew it. She does swing it around and the hard part will hit her. She doesn’t seem bothered by it tho lol good size and minimum noise When I first introduced her to it she was a little scared but now she gets excited to play with it once it finishes charging.

My Dog Is Obsessed With This Toy!
Color: Orange, Color: Orange
My dog absolutely loves this toy and plays with it every day. The moving and rolling action keeps him entertained much longer than regular toys. He loves chasing it around the house and tugging on the rope. It’s also nice because it helps burn off some of his energy indoors. The material feels pretty sturdy, and charging was easy. Definitely one of the best interactive toys I’ve bought for my dog!

Waste of Money
Color: Orange
Cool toy but my dog ate through it the second day he played with it. It is not for strong dogs. No durability. I had to throw away the orange covers and now he just throws it around.

Cool toy. Fun for all
Color: Blue
A cool toy. entertainment for the dogs but more so for the dog parents to watch the dogs reaction. Comes with an additional rope just in case, which I loved. Only side note I would say is that the fast mood could be a little faster. My Golden retriever figured out the speed in less than 24 hours and now picks up the toy to try to chew it up, instead of chasing. With him attempting to chew on the toy in the small time I give him, there are no teeth marks yet…this toy appears to be durable. We play in short increments but enjoy the toy.

Must get!, Great interaction, mind stimulation
Color: Orange
Love this my pup can't get enough. My pup loves this and is hard on it. She throws it all around chases it and guards it like it is her child. It is strong, sturdy easy to charge and fun to watch her engage with it. Definitely must have and I will buy more. It shakes and rolls around, it walks itself and engages the pup to chase. The design is spectacular. It is light weight and the noise level is typical of a toy engaging response.
